Rosin

Artisan Pastellier rosin is a natural resin that has long been used, particularly for its adhesive properties and its insolubility in water.

L'Artisan Pastellier rosin is derived from pine resin, that is, the secretion of certain conifers (such as maritime pine). L'Artisan Pastellier rosin is a purified resin of rosin (ww) quality. Artisan Pastellier rosin is used in many recipes, particularly for its high adhesive strength (it adds tack to paints or makes products “stickier”). L'Artisan Pastellier’s rosin also imparts hardness to certain products. L'Artisan Pastellier’s rosin comes in the form of thick, yellow, transparent flakes that are brittle (and easy to grind into a powder).

Uses: "L'Artisan Pastellier" rosin in block form for the bows of stringed instruments such as violins, cellos, etc. (improves the bow's contact with the strings)

Beewraps: for making more natural food wraps. Sealing wax: Modeling wax: for sculptors. Lost-wax casting: for casting bronze. Dubbing wax and silk: for preparing flies for fly fishing. Climber’s “Pof”: a ball of cloth containing pulverized rosin from the Artisan Pastellier (ground using a pestle in a mortar, for example), which climbers use to improve grip on holds. Plucking wax: poultry. Adhesives: Firelighters. Formulations: There are many recipes available online, often involving a mixture of beeswax, vegetable oils (sunflower or olive), and petroleum jelly.

The Artisan Pastellier's rosin softens at low temperatures (around 80°C) and can be easily mixed with melted beeswax. The Artisan Pastellier's rosin and the wax should preferably be heated at a low temperature on a hot plate to avoid open flames, and in a well-ventilated room to minimize exposure to vapors and dust. Artisan Pastellier rosin is soluble in alcohols (for varnish production) and aromatic solvents. Artisan Pastellier rosin is insoluble in water, which makes it valuable for the hydrophobic properties it imparts to products.

Risks:

Artisan Pastellier rosin is an irritant. Rosin dust can cause respiratory irritation. Repeated or prolonged skin contact may cause skin irritation or, over time, an allergic reaction. Artisan Pastellier rosin dust may ignite in the presence of a source of ignition.
