Directions for use:

Application of Dammar Varnish to Paintings:

A number of precautions should be taken during preparation and during the varnishing process itself. Since the purpose of varnishing is both to protect and to provide a finish for the artwork, the dammar varnish should be applied in an even coat. The surface to be varnished must be thoroughly cleaned, clean, and dry. It is best to work in a clean environment that is neither damp nor dusty, at a room temperature that is neither too hot nor too cold, and out of direct sunlight.

You can apply the varnish with a paintbrush, a varnish brush, or a roller—the tool must be clean and used exclusively for varnishing.

The varnish is applied flat to prevent drips. Dammar varnish for paintings is applied in two cross-coats.

For the first layer, apply brushstrokes evenly and parallel to the edges of the painting surface. If possible, apply the layer in a single pass without reloading the brush to ensure an even coat. If possible, work without overlapping one layer with the next. Let dry in a dust-free area for 24 to 48 hours.

Once the first coat of varnish is dry, apply the second coat using the same tool. Apply the strokes perpendicular to those of the first coat. Clean the tools with mineral spirits or turpentine.
