Special Picture Varnish for Finishing

L’Artisan Pastellier’s Special Varnish for Paintings is a varnish made from polycyclohexanone resin dissolved in mineral spirits. L’Artisan Pastellier’s Special Varnish for Paintings is as fluid as dammar varnish and also offers excellent adhesion to the surface of the paint film. The Artisan Pastellier Special Picture Finishing Varnish is ideally suited for protecting and finishing oil paintings and acrylic paintings. This varnish does not yellow and, unlike other resins, remains fully removable over time. This varnish produces a glossy, non-yellowing film and offers excellent resistance to dust, air pollution, scratches, and more. It has a mild odor and dries quickly. It remains removable. Directions for Use: Applying the Special Picture Finishing Varnish: Certain precautions should be taken during preparation and during the varnishing process itself. Since the purpose of varnishing is both to protect and to finish the artwork, the special varnish for paintings should be applied in an even coat. The surface to be varnished must be thoroughly cleaned, clean, and dry. Work preferably in a clean environment that is neither humid nor dusty, at a room temperature that is neither too hot nor too cold, and out of direct sunlight. The Artisan Pastellier special varnish for paintings can be applied with a paintbrush, varnish brush, or roller; the tool must be clean and used exclusively for varnishing. Varnishing should be done on a flat surface to prevent drips. The special varnish for paintings is applied in two cross-hatched coats. For the first coat, apply brushstrokes evenly and parallel to the edges of the painting surface. If possible, apply the coat in a single pass without reloading the brush to ensure an even layer. If possible, avoid overlapping one coat with the next. Allow to dry in a dust-free area for 24 to 48 hours. Once the first coat of varnish is dry, apply the second coat using the same tool. Apply the strokes perpendicular to those of the first coat. Clean tools with mineral spirits or turpentine.
